Emu family taking a stroll...

This is a family of emus taking a stroll down a red dirt track outside of a little seaside town called Wooli. Dads look after emu chicks, they sit on the large eggs & raise them, it is very unusual to find so many in a group, we were lucky to spot them on our drive back from a little beach called 'Diggers' we'd spent the day there & were moseying home, just like this family here.  Emus are huge flightless birds and we all in awe to catch them with our camera : ) I wanted to share it with you : )

Wow and I was thrilled seeing Canadian Geese with their goslings. How cool is this.

Pam you're funny, I've never seen Canadian Geese with goslings (unlikely to I guess?) so you have that animal over me : ) Do ducks & ducklings count ; )

lol Shelle, I guess you wouldn't have seen Canadian Geese. They are beautiful birds but I have a bad habit of not watching where I am walking and getting too close, and they do scare me as they can be vicious especially if babies near by! lol

Here's a perfect example of too close...

Thanks guys for your comments, you know we are all really lucky that we share our world with all these creatures, and it really brings it home witnessing how wonderful the everyday is...
One more thing...
Deborah, I think female emus actually instigated the women's lib movement LOL!!

Wonderful photo !! I didn't have a camera with me whilst travelling round Western Australia, on one journey, and had an encounter with a papa emu and six chicks, as he led them to safety thru dunes.'Twas quite funny as he'd appear at the top of one...and wait....and gradually all six would reach him. and it would repeat with the next dune.
I love emus, have worked them into quite a few of my hats... and used to camp beside an enclosure at a road house 90 kms south of Alice, with emus, camels and roos....was hysterical at times......~ Megg
