I am running late with my post (I shall blame it on camera gremlins rather than my complete inability to handle my schedule and forgetting the intricacies of how to do a 'post')...
'Shadow of Oz' was a difficult one, I wrestled with everything, how can something under the glow of a rainbow, something that has given so much joy also have a 'dark' side... I looked up the 'scandals' that lurked around the other side of the rainbow, mostly involving oversexed & under 4 foot extras, fallen monkeys hospitalised for heat exhaustion, poisoned tin men, scarred scarecrows and the drunken munchkins that needed rescued from toilet bowls because they were supposed to be on set.
I don't even know if it's true, but it struck me that the 'Shadow of Oz' was actually a part of the Wizard of Oz's extended life, the books exploded into a cosmos of film, fan fiction, art, dolls... 'rumours' you name it... so I guess these are the 'Shadow' of Oz, and now here are 2 things I will add to that shadow... both are give aways, the painting of the 'Shadowy' Flying monkey, who really only wants to please, & a pin of the sweet Dorothy & Toto :)
If you wish to be in the draw for the giveaways please let me below know how big an OZ fan you are below & I will ask Oma to pick the 2 winners from my comments section (please Oma, I am a Libran and it is impossible for me to choose)!
Sorry I am late in posting hope to see you all on the weekend!

Drunk'in munchkins! Awe! Now that is dark!
Being the first movie of my wacky life, it has shown up in my mind from time to time, usually the same time as good and evil. As years go by, the characters change sides,
only Toto remains the same!
I do enjoy Oma's yearly event, and your art is unmistakeable! Flyin monkey is wonderful!
A wonderful ending to my day!
Thanks Debi!! I'm just starting to troll, got myself a cuppa & a day, off to see the 'dark' side of Oz x Ohh apparently one of the munchkins took Judy Garland on a date, she was chaperoned by her mum (she was 17) and the dude apparently not perturbed but ecstatic, insisting he had '2 broads for the price of 1', a little creepy if not dark!
Now I can't stop giggling at the image of a drunken munchkin in a toilet. Wow. Just imagine. Okay, better not.
The heat exhaustion cases and the poisoning of the Tin Man are pretty sad. So glad we've come a long way in film and costumes (and unions) since those days...
I LOVE monkey and Dorothy and Toto, too. If I win (yes, I would like to win) I will have to give them to the Little Princess. The colors match her room!
The Flying Monkey is completely wonderful, Shelle! Such an expressive face!! Dorothy and Toto are adorable too. As I've already won one of your exquisite artworks, I'll hand my entry in the giveaway over to Magaly's Little Princess, if I am allowed to do that. :)
They used lead paint on the tin man...didn't they?...pfft...idiots!
I would love to take that little monkey on a picnic...tis a hobby of mine :DXXX
Shelle, I too had a diffiult time thinking of Oz and real darkness in the same sentence. Glad Ms. Meme helped you out getting the link to us because your review of the stupid shadows of the production of the movie especially the "little people" exploits certainly do qualify as on the shady side.
I'm looking at the flying monkey and thinking how very talented you are to have created such an expression in the eyes of a supposed "meanie". He is wonderful.
I'd be glad to help you out with the drawing of names.......and I promise, I won't cheat.
Thanks for being a part of this Oztravaganza again this year. I don't want to imagine Oz (either the real or mine) without you and your loving heart. xoxo Oma Linda
For me, "The Wizard of Oz" was the start of our holiday traditions. One of the television stations would broadcast it every year right before Christmas. I can remember standing by the Christmas tree dressed in scratchy petticoats, black patent shoes, hair pulled tightly back into a really skinny pony tail getting ready to go to my great-grandmother's house to be with my dad's side of the family.I would dream about it for days afterward. I loved when it went from black and white to full technicolor when the house landed in Oz.
I love flying monkeys even if they are not reliable couriers! Your flying monkey has such a gorgeous little face.......now I have to prove that I am not a robot so that I can post this comment....though I could be a robot pretending not to be!
you are brilliant girl! Oversexed and under 4 foot extras! LOL! You know I love your creations ;o) Please enter me my friend ;o) You need to start getting some art in your shop!!! (I have to write to you about Bear. I'm getting kind of excited to meet him! LOL!)
I love the movie bunches! There's huge soft spot in my heart for stories about traveling to another world. Both paintings are super cute! I'm always amazed by your range and ability to pull off so many styles so beautifully.
I am Overwhelmed by your Paintings!!!!!Oh, the tenderness of that sweet monkey!!! I'm sure there must be apple pie and poppy seed cake in that basket. And Dorothy and Toto are Fabulous as well!!!! I have always been a HUGE Oz fan. I have 42 of the books and I lived as much in Oz, as in the real world, when I was young. Thank-you for getting to see your enchanting paintings!!!
