Let it Rain (6 Weeks & Counting)...

It's STILL RAINING!!! OK, Really I should let you know I'm the last person who's ever going to whack on a string bikini, cover myself in coconut oil & lie in the sun with a magazine reading an "exclusive" about Katie Holmes & Tom Cruises advice on how we should designer dress our children or how to throw a super-dupa 4th birthday party to make all other preschoolers green with envy...
but please...
come on...
I promise I'll never whinge about those hot humid tropical December, January days again, promise I won't whinge about the intense glare if I forget my sunnies, or curse the fact if I burn the soles of my bare feet on the steaming driveway racing down to collect the mail... promise I will give you respect if the grey clouds part & we see & feel your presence again... as I listen to the gentle (actually it's freakin' loud, but that's not very poetic) yes the gentle rolling thunder, and before I turn off my computer because of the lightning strikes that are getting closer, as my dog Milo sits shaking under my desk & drooling over my feet (yes he too wants to see the sun again) I remember some of the good things about living on the Sunshine Coast in Australia, and thought I'd share a couple of "home" pics, with just a few other creatures we share this sodden land with... all taken nearby, some as close as our deck, we hope our neighbours come back when the rain stops, I think they are a little like us, finding shelter & maybe letting out an occasional curse word!!

Stacy thank you, your comments always make me feel like doing a little happy dance : ) thank you and thank your mom for your warm thoughts & sunny prayers, many Queenslanders have been devastated, there are over 70 people missing & 8 dead, unfortunately we woke up this morning to more news of evacuations and tragedy and the rain is relentless. The highways are cut and nearby there has been some houses collapsing as hillside land has given way... there's flash flooding in many areas... the rescue people are being hampered by conditions, even the helicopters are having problems plucking the people from car-tops, roofs and from trees because of visibility, and of course emergency road vehicles can't get through : (
We are pretty much house bound as it's best to stay off the roads unless necessary, lot's of local roads are cut off... a news flash has just announced another 30 suburbs in Brisbane with a major flood warning & for people to leave and stay with friends if at all possible. Hopefully things will be back to normal after floods subside, clean drinking water & getting food & medical help is now to those most affected is a priority.
There's so many wonderful things about living here, (on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland) I wanted to share a few of them here, and of course we hope to see our sunny friends back after the deluge : )
My photo 'Koala' was taken at the school playground, there are 2 that took up residence they can be spotted usually asleep or chewing on eucalyptus... 'Magpie', this is a local who dive bombs us in nesting season... our 'Possum' a friendly night visitor who partakes in a midnight snack we race & get if we spot him, he's very shy & love apple... 'Cockatoo' a stunning bird who comes to eat off the native grevillia trees in our yard (along with other birds I hope to introduce in later posts) their shriek is deafening and if kept as a pet can be taught to speak (LOUDLY LOL)!! Pleased you enjoyed meeting them : )

What a cool bunch of animals to have hanging around. I am just in love with koalas, have been ever since 5th grade when I did a project on them. They are just the coolest!

Hope the storms go away and sun is there to stay! :)

I'm so glad you didn't get the awful flooding where you live--it was so devastating to see the footage on our news--wish I wasn't so very far away so that I could have helped somehow. Your photos are amazing--I've always LOVED Koala bears, but have never seen one in real life outside of the San Diego Zoo years ago. I've never seen a magpie quite like that one before! I live in the Sacramento area of northern California, and we have yellow-billed magpies here--the only region in the entire world where there are yellow-billed ones. When I lived in Boise, Idaho, we had blackbilled magpies in our backyard all the time. The magpies love peanuts! I'm a big fan of wild birds. And your wild cockatoo is amazing--I only see those in cages at the pet stores, unfortunately! Thanks for sharing your pictures-they made my day!

Well I guess you did get the flooding (I read your posts again because sometimes I miss things when I go too fast!); I'm just glad your family is okay--
